Highly Structured / Individualized / Multisensory / Sequential
Each session is one hour long. The initial and second sessions consist of an informal diagnostic. This serves to highlight the gaps and areas of difficulties or challenges, each individual student experiences. Once the assessment has been completed, an individualized plan is created to meet your child's specific learning needs. A report is emailed to you, the parents. Subsequent sessions are cumulative, multi-sensory, structured and sequential.
Research has indicated that the time is more effectively optimized in a one-on-one session between the practitioner and student. Murrayville is a lovely historic town, with several coffee shops and a library close by. This presents a wonderful opportunity for you to relax or catch up on an errand. Please return five minutes before the end of the session to give your child an opportunity to share what they have learned.
Please ensure that your child has their materials bin ready for the session. Since we are doing extensive brain exercises and learning, to ensure success, please provide your child with a quiet (no background noise such as television or family discussions) workspace at a table or desk. Lying or sitting on a bed will not be permitted. If the only room available is in the child’s bedroom, please ensure there is a solid workspace, and the door is always open during the session.
These will be held in my home studio. Students must bring a water bottle. Materials will be supplied as required. Shoe covers will be provided on entry. Please cancel if your child is not well. See the cancellation policy below for further details.
More than a business, my mission is to change lives and give hope. To change self-doubt into confidence. To guide and empower students to discover their unique gifts and strengths. Your excellence is my mission. – Avril Wessels
The student is assessed each month to ensure progress, and a report is emailed at the end of each term. The monitoring of the student’s growth is an essential part of the learning plan. If a student is not responding to the approach, parents will be advised immediately.
Three reports per year will be emailed at the end of each term. If the student requires summer sessions, the third term report will be issued at the end of the summer. Reports itemize all the content we have worked on with the student over the term. The reports help the school understand what is happening during the child’s intervention time, often affecting progress measured on a student’s school IEP. Reports will be issued a week before the end of the term and meetings will be available for the first fifteen minutes on the last day of your child’s tutoring session.
All lessons presented to the students are multi-sensory. Reviewing the newly learned work is an important component of memory retention. After most sessions, the student will be given one or two review cards. Reviewing and tracing the concept on these cards at home will be of great benefit to the student. Ask your child to “teach” the concept to you as this will solidify the concept. Once the concept is secure, keep the cards in a box and revisit them periodically. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Late shows – the lesson will continue for the remainder of the time without a refund.
No-shows – fees still apply.
Cancellations – with at least 24-hour notice, make-up sessions will provided three times per year. Usual fees will apply.
If less than 24-hour notice is given, a practice package will be emailed for the student to do at home. This is in lieu of the missed session, and payment still applies.
If I need to cancel the session, there will be no charge.
